Marine & coastal projects
Coastal Connections
The Coastal Connections project works with community groups, public and private land managers in the high priority coastal zone, nationally significant wetlands of Lower Merri and Yambuk Lake to enhance critical habitat for threatened fauna.
Coastal Works Program
Estuaries are highly productive habitats that contribute greatly to the social and economic value of south west Victoria. The Coastal Works Program will protect and enhance priority waterways in the Glenelg Hopkins CMA’s coastal region.
Glenelg Estuary and Discovery Bay – Glenelg Ramsar
The Glenelg Estuary and Discovery Bay is Victoria and Australia’s newest Ramsar site – Glenelg Ramsar – and was gazetted as a Wetland of International Significance in August 2018. Estuary and Discovery Bay Ramsar Management Plan (Glenelg RMP) guides the range of activities for the site.
Permanent Protection of Long Swamp
The restoration of Long Swamp and provision of natural landforms will allow water levels to connect between the swamp and the Glenelg Estuary.
Sanderling tracking project
Finding out where the tiny Sanderling birds who appear on our beaches each summer come from and where they are foraging is a key part of this community-initiated project in the Discovery Bay area.
